2010 Year in Review

Now that we are in 2011, it only seems appropriate to look back at 2010.  This past year was a huge year for me both professionally and personally.  One thing about me is I never really think I have accomplished anything (it’s good to be hungry), but when I take a step back, A LOT has happened in 2010!

Professionally, this was my first year working independently as a photographer.  In previous years, I was working as a contract photographer for numerous vendors.  This year, I committed myself to finding my own work.  I ventured into the world of marketing, blogging, networking, presentations, contracts, proposals, rejections, and all the other things that go into running a creative business.  It had its ups and downs, but all in all, I am excited about the way things went, and I’m confidently looking forward to 2011.

I want to thank all the great people I met and had the pleasure of working with.  I especially want to thank the folks who took a “chance on me.”  I understand that working with a new photographer can be worrisome and I truly appreciate the opportunity.  I am very excited at the prospect of working with you all again in the future.

In my personal life, things were just as busy.  Laura and I moved into our first home and we still feel like we are house sitting.  We made additions to our family by adding Dino, our kitten, and Bebot, our puppy.  We adopted them two days apart, both at eight weeks old.  Raising and training the two of them together has been a challenge, but so much fun.  I don’t think I can imagine our home without them.

As a result of all this craziness, we went on fewer adventures than we usually do, but we were able to squeeze in some.  We visited Wallowa Lake, cliff jumped into Crater Lake, and camped and hiked in the Olympic Peninsula.  We were even able to squeeze in a quick bike camping trip out to Champoeg.  The end of the year was highlighted by a ten day trip back to the East coast where we spent our time visiting family and friends.

I don’t think I could have predicted the way 2010 went, but I happy about how it turned out!

Below are some highlights from the year.

    Hi Christian,
I’m a photography enthusiast and I came upon you article in Popular Photography. I browsed through your galleries on your website and I would say you have a very special talent. Your photographs are just stunningly beautiful.
I had a high school classmate in Mangaldan Pangasinan, Philippines by the name of Rosendo Columbres. Do you happen to be related to him?
He passed on several years ago and never saw him since graduation.

    • Hi Joey,

Thanks for you kid words! I have some family from Pangasinan, as my father grew up there. I was there for the first time in 2007 and had a wonderful time. I did not know of Rosendo, but I am probably related in some way. I noticed on a billboard that there was another Columbres that was a politician in the town. Thanks again for your comment!

      Christian
